Path to the Stars

Updated: Mar 26

Acevedo, Sylvia. Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist. Clarion Books: NY, 2018.

YA Autobiography

Growing up in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in a Mexican-American family with many struggles and familial expectations, Acevedo yearns for adventure. She finds adventure through the Girl Scouts where she also finds the order she craves and ultimately the first steps to her career in engineering. As one of the first Hispanic students, male or female, to earn an engineering master's degree from Stanford University and currently the CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, Acevedo is a strong woman who has worked hard throughout her life to be where she and help others.

I enjoyed this book, even though it is geared to 4th-7th graders. I admit, I love reading (auto)biographies and children's books. This was right up my alley. I continue to be humbled by what others in our world go through in their lives to overcome and become.
